CITE Ends Holiday ICT Training

The Graduation Ceremony of the well patronized One-month Children- Holiday ICT Training Programme, organized by the Centre for Information and Telecommunications Engineering (CITE), University of Port Harcourt, took place, Thursday, September 8 ,2022. It was a huge success and very commendable. The 177 graduands who successfully completed their trainings in Python Programming, C++, and Graphic designs, Ms-word, Excel, Power Point, Coding and Robotics were overwhelmed with joy and satisfaction for the new skills acquired while Certificates and Awards received by the granduands. Some mind-blowing projects like obstacle avoidance & voice controlled Robotic Car, Auto Gas & Smoke detector, GSM- based home automation , etc were demonstrated by the kids. The parents and invited guests were amazed at the exhibition and skills displayed. The President, University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA) and Proprietress, UPWA Group of Schools Dr. Udeme Georgewill who was the Chairperson of the ceremony applauded the management of CITE for organising such a superlative programme and challenged the graduands to make productive used skills already acquired.

The Director of CITE, Professor Bourdillon Omijeh who won the U.S based Tensor Flow Awards on Machine learning and Data Analytics for human capacity development for two consecutive years (2021 & 2022), emphasized that his vision and passion is to develop and mentor younger ones to rule the world through emerging digital skills and innovation. He said raising professional I.T entrepreneurs, digital innovators, software developers, Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Engineers for the fourth Industrial Revolution is his mission. He therefore, advised parents and guardian to encourage and invest sacrificially to develop the talents and skills in their children and wards. He expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill and his management team for the overwhelming support he has giving to the Centre and achievements so far recorded at the Centre. He also appreciated some notable industry partners: National Information Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and HUAWEI, Tensor Flow for their supports and professional collaborations.

Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, professor Owunari Georgewill congratulated the graduand and the management of CITE under the leadership of the Director, Prof Burdillon Omijeh for these laudable achievements. He further, stated that Certificate with Skills is the way to go. He thereby, encouraged parents and relevant stakeholders, especially those in University community to always register their kids for such programmes when the opportunities come up and charged the grandaunts to go and conquer their world through digital creativity.

In a recent development, on the 20th September, 2022, some of the successful coding and robotics kids were short-listed in the ongoing NITDA –Coursera International Professional training and certification, that would earn them global visibility and opportunities.
