OWSD Nigeria Ends Leadership Training

A two-day training workshop on leadership for organisational growth has ended with a call on women in science to adopt global principles of leadership in their various fields of endeavour. The call was made at the training workshop held by the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Nigeria Chapter.' The workshop which was hosted by the University of Port Harcourt was held from Wednesday, November 16 to Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology (AEB) Auditorium.

Speaking at the event tagged: “1st Leadership Training on Organisation Growth”, the Facilitator, Professor Michael Faborode, emphasised the need for women in leadership positions to imbibe global principles that have the potential to trigger growth in their various organizations. He stated that “adopting actionable principles of leadership is the panacea to the myriad of challenges in global leadership.” On her part, the Director, Institute of Natural Resources, Environment and Development (INRES), Professor Aduabobo Hart, noted that women are created for multiple career roles, explaining that the roles can only be achieved if women show adequate humility and empathy in leadership. “Good leadership is when you are able to touch lives of young people through strategic communication and by actively listening to their challenges. As women our roles are multiple in nature” she said.

Major highlight of the event was a courtesy visit on the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill by the national executive of OWSD. The team led by the Vice Chairperson, Dr Eucharia Nwachi, congratulated Professor Georgewill on his appointment as the 9th Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt and also used the occasion to brief him on the forthcoming 2023 OWSD National Conference be held in the University of Port Harcourt. In his response, the Vice Chancellor welcomed the delegation and expressed his willingness to support the OSWD, especially on the successful planning and hosting of their 2023 national conference.
