VC Reiterates Support for Communication Faculty

Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, has reassured the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of University Management's support towards the accreditation of programmes and development of the new Faculty. The Vice Chancellor gave the reassurance when the Faculty paid courtesy visit on him at the Committee Room.
The Vice Chancellor, who spoke through the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Clifford Ofurum, called on the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Ngozi Iheanachor for an update on the issue of Resource Verification in the Faculty. On his part, Professor Iheanachor briefed the gathering on the latest development on the planned verification exercise by the National Universities Commission.

In his address, the Interim Dean of the Faculty, Professor Walter Ihejirika expressed the appreciation of the Faculty to Management, disclosing that they were in the Vice Chancellor's Office to intimate him on the developments in the Faculty.
“We thank you for the wonderful support you have been giving to our Faculty, which is one of the first fruits of your Administration. Thank you Sir, for helping to amicably resolve the issues between us and our mother Faculty, the Faculty of Humanities. Your wise mediation will enable the two Faculties and the concerned Departments to coexist and function optimally for the good of the University. Thank you for the office furniture and chairs which you allocated to our Faculty,” he said.

The Interim Dean, who disclosed that the Faculty is collaborating with the Journalism Educators Foundation to host its biennial conference in June, used the occasion of the visit to invite the Vice Chancellor as Chief Host. He listed the successful domiciling of postgraduate programmes in Communication and Film Studies, setting up of the digital studio donated to the University by MacArthur Foundation, receipt of a donation of 3 KVA Fuel generator as some of the most recent achievements made by the Faculty. Ihejirika also highlighted the urgent challenges of the Faculty.

Present at the meeting were Principal Officers, Professors, Heads of Department, Senior Lecturers and other Faculty members.
