Emeka Offor Foundation Donates BooksA week after Sir Emeka Offor pledged to donate books, in addition to the N50 million he contributed towards the advancement of the University through the Endowment Fund Raising at the last Convocation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ajienka, has taken delivery of 52 cartons of Library items weighing three tonnes.

The donation which was delivered through the Deputy Registrar (Protocol & Logistics), Mr Okezie Ochuba, include; an IBM Laptop, a complete set of 2005 edition of Encyclopedia Britannica and other books which cut across all disciplines with writing materials.

Speaking during the official unveiling of the books, Professor Ajienka, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Bernard Efiuvwevwere extolled the philanthropic gesture of Chief Offor, as well as the timeliness in delivering his promise.

The Vice-Chancellor, who promised to convey the University’s gratitude to the donor, underscored the fact that the books would add to the volumes of materials in the Library for the advancement of knowledge.

In her Goodwill Speech, Chairman of Library Committee, Professor Bene Willie-Abbey, expressed happiness with the donor for the timely redemption of his pledge without being reminded.

Professor Willie-Abbey, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Development), called on well-meaning individuals and group to come to the aid of the University through donation of reading materials to assist in teaching and learning.

The University Librarian, Dr Obiageli Nwodo, in her opening remarks, informed the Vice-Chancellor that the pledge was redeemed a week after the donor made the pronouncement at the 27th Convocation. Dr Nwodo thanked Sir Offor for the delivery of the books which she acknowledged had gulped a reasonable amount of money, promising that the University Community would fully utilize the materials.

Other Senior Officers of the University who were present at the event included: Deputy Registrar (Information), Williams Wodi, Deputy Librarian, Mr Joseph Aina and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor (SAVC), Mr Kingsley Wogwu.
