Jonathan, 39 Alumni Make Science Faculty Hall Of Fame List

Consequent upon the final short-listing of candidates from the various Departments in the Faculty of Science, the Faculty’s 40th Anniversary Committee has inducted 40 very distinguished Alumni in the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was unveiled as part of an elaborate Hand Over ceremony to a new Dean following the expiration of the two-team tenure of the incumbent, Professor Nenna Frank-Peterside. Unveiling the plague at the entrance of the Ofrima Complex on Friday, July 29, 2016, which was her last official assignment before handing over to the new Dean, Professor Gideon Obute, immediate past Dean of the Faculty, professor Frank-Peterside, disclosed that immediate past president of Nigeria and pioneer graduate of the Faculty of the Faculty, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and 39 other very distinguished Alumni of the various Departments scaled through the rigorous screening process to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. “I want to congratulate all our distinguished Alumni who made the list and the Committee that worked very hard to deliver on this very important assignment. The selection process was not a choice we made in a hurry due to the stringent criteria the Committee had to follow to arrive at each name. We are happy that the assignment has now been concluded to the satisfaction of every stakeholder in the affairs of our beloved Faculty. I therefore, unveil this Hall of Fame as token of appreciation to the pioneering efforts and excellent commitment of the honorees to the growth of their respective Departments, the Faculty and University, ”Professor Frank-Peterside told the gathering. In his speech, Chairman of the defunct College of Natural and Applied Sciences Committee on the 40th Uniport Anniversary celebration, Professor Bernard Efiuvwevwere revealed that the committee was inaugurated on January 16, 2015 with a mandate to organise a memorable 40thAnniversary Celebration for the then college between February 27 and March 1, 2015. “One of the key mandates of the Committee, among others, was to institute a Hall of Fame of forty outstanding Alumni. This responsibility was highly demanding based on the fact that a lot of factors were put into consideration in selecting the outstanding Alumni from several submissions from each Department. The selection of the final nominees was based on several criteria, including their accomplishments and service to the Faculty, University and Humanity,” Professor Efiuvwevwere disclosed, pointing out that the Faculty was happy to identify its distinguished Alumni who were making the University proud. He further disclosed that the selection of distinguished Alumni for the Hall of Fame project was not originally part of the mandate of the committee for the celebration. Speaking on behave of the honorees, the Director of the Institute of Natural Resources and Sustainable development, Professor Benjamin Ndukwu, showered praises on the Committee for finding them worthy of the honor. He promised that he and his colleagues would continue to do their best to their various Departments, the Faculty, the University and the rest of society. Also speaking, immediate past associate Dean of the Faculty, Professor Charity Okujagu, expressed gratitude to staff and students of the Faculty and other members of the University community for the support given to them while they were in charge of the Faculty in the past four years. She pledged support for the new leadership and continued contributions towards the growth of the Faculty.
