THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT (Tuesday, 4th – Friday, 7th January, 2022)

1.  The University Management observed the hand over from the Acting Registrar- Mrs. Joyce C. Tamuno to the substantive 8th Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Gloria O. Chindah. We commended the hitch-free handover and charged the new Registrar to sustain the legacies of her predecessors and leveraging on the culture of all inclusiveness, strive to improve the Registry Department in particular and the University Administration in general.

 2.  Similarly, the University Management observed the handover from the Acting University Librarian – Dr. Emmanuel Owushi to the substantive University Librarian – Dr. Mrs. Helen Emasealu. We also charged the new University Librarian on the viability of the University for Internationally recognized Library practices in the University of Port Harcourt.

 3. An Emergency Principal Officers Meeting was held to consider the newly amended Federal Government Procurement Act.

4.  We inspected the ongoing construction of the new Convocation Arena. We are pleased to inform members of the University Community that the pace of work at the site is highly commendable.

 5. We received Professor Amadi Ogonda Ihunwo of the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. We had a fruitful discussion on areas of mutual collaboration.

 6.  We held a meeting with all Directors of Revenue Generating Centers and Institutes. We urged them to properly account for revenues, income & expenditures so as to make appropriate  remittances to the University.

7.   We are glad to inform the University Community that the newly admitted year one students are back from the Christmas break and lectures have commenced in earnest.

 8.  The Prochancellor, Senator Andrew Uchendu carried out a tour on abandoned projects in the three (3)  campuses of  University with a view to assessing the level of work done and possible completion.

 9.  We participated in the ground-breaking of a pilot staff housing scheme at the new Ghana Ama axis, Abuja Campus, University of Port Harcourt in a bid to address the on campus accommodation challenges.

 10. We inspected some completed renovation works in some staff residential quarters to ascertain adherence to quality in line with approval granted.

 11. We are pleased to report that the newly recruited staff have been enrolled into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) platform. The exercise was conducted for the concerned Staff between 29th & 30th December, 2021.

12. We are glad to announce that within the week, some academic staff were promoted to professorial cadre. We congratulated them on their respective achievement and urged them to contribute their wealth of knowledge to scholarly development in the University of Port Harcourt and across the nation.
