THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT (Monday, 17th – Friday, 21st January, 2022)

1. We received Accreditation Teams from the National Universities Commission for Faculty of Engineering. We are pleased to inform the University Community that the accreditation exercise was successful and the teams have exited.

2. We met with the State Executive Council members of the Unique Uniport Alumni for some crucial discussions and thereafter met with representatives of the National Body to harmonize forth coming elections and peaceful co-existence.

 3. The Nigerian Medical Students’ Association paid to a courtesy visit, we interacted with them and also encouraged them to be intentional about their academic pursuit.

 4. We held a meeting with University of Port Harcourt Parents Forum, the meeting sought to foster avenues to strengthen the relationship between the University and the Forum.

5) The 179th Inaugural Lecture series of the University of Port Harcourt was delivered by Prof. Emmanuel Ibanichuka of the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Sciences. The Lecture titled "Fraudsters are Fleet of Foot: The Forensic Accountant to Rescue" interrogated the lingering concept of fraud and recommended far reaching solutions to curb the growing rate of fraud.

 6. We attended the 52nd Convocation Ceremony of the University of Lagos, Lagos State. We are happy to report that the University of Port Harcourt was cheerfully received and accorded a well-deserved accolade among other sister universities.

7. Similarly, we attended the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Joseph Babalola University, Osun State.

8. We are delighted to inform the University Community that we received our kidnaped students who graciously escaped from their abductors. We are grateful to God for their safe return. We hereby use this medium to advise staff, students and stakeholders to be watchful and security conscious.

9. We were at the Bursary Departmental Meeting. We charged them to keep to the rules of the accounting profession and be worthy ambassadors of the University of Port Harcourt.

10. We inspected the ongoing renovation of Hospitality & Tourism Mgt. building and that of the Faculty of Management Sciences. We are determined to give a lift to facilities/buildings in the University.

11. We also inspected newly supplied inverter batteries and some items at the Procurement Unit. Thereafter we proceeded to assess the proposed site for gas plant, Abuja Campus. Our findings and observations will be disclosed to the University Community in due course.
