THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday, 7th – Friday, 11th February, 2022)

1. We received a delegation from the Office of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), who were on ground to:

• Conduct annual Salary inspection 

• Ascertain compliance of public service establishments with the Federal Government Staff Compensation Policy

• Identify specific problems of salary administration encountered by establishments and proffer solutions 

• Gather data on remuneration policies and practices of government agencies.

We are glad to report that the University of Port Harcourt is in compliance with the policies of the Commission.

 

2. Also in this week, the University Governing Council at its extra-ordinary meeting, considered and approved the appointment of University External Auditors and the Budget for the 33rd Combined Convocation ceremony of the University.

 

3. In keeping with environmental and health standards, we inspected the illegal refuse dump site by the University fence towards the Man O' Camp. Immediate measures have been taken to curb the menace.

 

4. We received the Executive members of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) Uniport chapter, who paid a courtesy call on the University Management to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor on his well-deserved appointment and applaud the notable achievements of the administration. We had fruitful discussion on possible areas of collaboration.

 

5. We took an on-the-spot assessment of the proposed site for the Phase II of Faculty of Social Science building, Unipark. We are pleased to inform the University that work has commenced at the site.

 

6. In preparation for the National Debate Competition, we visited University of Port Harcourt Debate Club at the Exchange and Linkage Centre. We were thrilled by the brilliance exhibited by them and hopeful of gold medals at the Competition.

 

7. We have embarked on giving a facelift to the Senate Building and Ebitimi Banigo Auditorium. We encourage our staff and students to mind the wall and avoid littering.

 

8. We received an I.T Firm on a courtesy visit and had fruitful discussions on possible partnership to enhance our teaching methods by using various audiovisual aides. We shall adequately inform the University Community as we progress.
