THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday, 21st March – Friday, 25th March, 2022 )

1) At the meeting of Principal Officers held on Monday, 21st March, 2022, the University Management deliberated on and approved the postponement of the 33rd Combined Convocation Ceremony of the University earlier scheduled to hold on Friday, 1st April and Saturday, 2nd April, 2022.
2) We carried out inspection of the following:
a. Reconstruction of fallen fence at Sagbama Street, Delta Park
b. Reinforced road at Chemical Engineering Workshop, Choba Park
c. Operations at the University Bottling Company
3) We met with our medical doctors from the O.B. Lulu Briggs Health Centre. The meeting afforded them the opportunity to share some of their peculiar challenges and we promised to follow up.
4) In keeping with their Corporate Social Responsibility, we received donation of some Cisco equipments from Interswitch.
5) We received on a courtesy call, the Group Head, Business Development of First Bank Nigeria Insurance Brokers, Lagos State, Jane Nwagu and her Team. We had fruitful discussions on areas of mutual cooperation.
6) Similarly, the University Management received Chief Dr. Emi Membere Otaji, who donated a classroom building to the University. We thanked the donor while awaiting delivery of the project.
7) The University Management met with the Campus Environmental Beautification and Sanitation (CEBAS) Unit, Legal Unit, and all janitorial service providers in the University with a view to addressing some challenges and charting a way forward. An agreement was reached that all janitorial service providers must henceforth source 50% of their workforce from CEBAS.
8) The University and SPIE Nigeria Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU will enable both parties explore exchange opportunities and partnership.
9) We are glad to report the outstanding performance of our contingents to the NUGA games. The University currently maintains an overwhelming lead (1st position) on the medals table. We salute the passion and commitment of our sports ambassadors.
10) Tenders Board met to approve submission brought before it in line with the Procurement Act.
11) We held a meeting with the University of Parma, Italy to discuss areas of possible partnership. Thereafter, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill directed our Legal Unit to carefully study the Memorandum of Understanding.
