THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT
_Monday 5th – Friday 9th September, 2022_
We are glad to report the following activities that took place in the University during the week:
1. We participated in the meeting between the Minister of Education, Professor Adamu Adamu, the Prochancellors/Chairmen and Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria. The meeting was geared towards quick resolution of the ongoing industrial action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and we are hopeful.
2. We inspected the newly built Professorial offices and Lecture Theater courtesy of the NEEDs Assessment Project. We are glad to inform the University Community that the building would soon be commissioned and put to use.
3. Similarly, we inspected the ongoing construction of the Department of Sociology Building, Faculty of Social Sciences.
4. We attended the Graduation Ceremony/Award of Certificate of Competence to the students of ICT (Coding/Robotics) Summer Programme organized by the Centre for Information & Telecommunication Engineering (CITE), University of Port Harcourt. We encourage parents to avail their children/wards the opportunity for such training in time to come.
5. We got a report of illegal market at Abuja Campus, opposite the School of Basic Building, causing a menace on the campus. We confirmed the report on arrival and addressed the situation. We would like to use this medium to reiterate that there are designated point of sales and due processes for allocation of such spaces. Interested parties should reach the relevant units.
Consequently, we have scheduled a meeting with the vendors for Monday, 12th September, 2022 @ the VC's Committee Room to address the issues and stop reoccurrence.
We are hopeful that all pending issues bothering on the ongoing negotiations between the Federal Government and her Universities would be resolved in the shortest possible time to enable resumption of academic activities in the University.
