THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Tuesday 3rd – Friday 6th January, 2023)

A warm welcome back from the Christmas and new year Holidays. The following are events that took place in the University from Tuesday 3rd - Friday 6th January, 2023.
1. At resumption of activities on the 3rd of January, 2023, we held a brief Prayer Session in the office of the Vice Chancellor to kick start the new year, we prayed for the University Management and all members of staff and students . We enjoined staff to be at their best with due diligence in service delivery at their various faculties /departments and units.
2. The Principal Officers of the University, held an extensive meeting with the Student Union Executive Council, Students Union Electoral Committee, aspirants and other stakeholders. We addressed rumors of electoral bias and assured the Students' leadership of supervising a free, fair and credible election. We urged all contestants to abide by the rules.
3. The Information, Communication and Telecommunication Centre (ICTC) paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor and presented an award of Special Recognition for his effective, collaborative and inclusive leadership in the University.
4. Similarly, the Registrar and the 2022 Registry Day Planning Committee, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice- Chancellor and presented to him an award in recognition of his outstanding support and commitment to the Registry Arm of the University.
5. We attended and participated in the inauguration of the Presidents of the various faculties of the University and charged them to uphold the confidence bestowed on them by the students who voted them into office. They were encouraged to shun negative vices and see the opportunity as a call for higher service.
We received several University visitors from both Public and Private organizations who came to wish the University a prosperous year 2023 and pledged to work with the University management and other stakeholders in delivering the mandate of the University. We thanked them and assured them of our desire to work with all of them in our bid to improving the fortunes of the University in the year 2023
We appreciate the roles you all played at your various designated unit. We are hopeful of a more prosperous 2023.
