RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT

The following events took place in the University from Monday, 8th - Friday 26th May, 2023

1. The University Management signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Management of Rivers State College of Health Science Management and Technology for a collaborative learning and teaching partnership.

2. We are glad to announce that the University Governing Council at its 184th meeting approved the recommendation for the promotion  of some  members of academic staff to the rank of Associate Professors and Professors. 

3. Following the successful conduct of interview for the positon of Director, Physical Planning and Development Department, the University Governing approved the recommendation for the appointment of Arc.  Michael A. Ubom as the  substantive Director of Physical Planning and Development Department of the University.

4. As part of our supervisory role, we attended the Doctoral Defence of some of our students at the School of Graduate Studies. Again, we are happy to report the thoroughness of their research works. 

5. We participated in the 11th Induction/Oath-taking Ceremony of the graduating students of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. We charged the graduands  to discharge their assignment in line with best standards and through innovations and service, help place the University at an enviable position on the world scale.

6. The Registrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharm Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, in company of  the President Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Prof. Cyril Usifo and other members of the Council, visited the University  to felicitate with us on the 11th Induction/Oath-taking Ceremony. 

7. We undertook inspection visits on some ongoing NEEDS assessment building projects in the University.

8. We received a Premier Award from the Academy Support Center and Instructor Training Center at Pari - France in recognition of our commitment to advancing the success of students and instructors within the Cisco Networking Academy.

9. We received books donated by Prof. Emma Osonna Ugwulebo of the Department of Sociology, Imo State University Owerri.

10. The University of Port Harcourt Institute of International Trade and Development (IITD) in collaboration with the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce hosted a one day symposium/trade fair on with the Theme  "Trade as an Engine for Growth and Development" at the Ebitimi Banigo Auditorium

11. The Senate Committee on the NUC-CCMAS met at the Council Chambers in line with the NUC directive 

12. We received the Legislative Arm of the Student Union led by her Senate President, Comr. Uzoamaka. The Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Chima Nwokocha accompanied them on the visit. 

13. The publishers of Official Nigeria Magazine paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor and presented an award of "Outstanding Vice Chancellor of the Year" to the Vice Chancellor for his enormous contributions to the Education Sector.

14. The Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar attended a crucial meeting of the National Universities Commission with respect to Presidential Panel Report on White Paper.

15. We received and inspected some ICT and Library equipment from the Tertiary Education Trustfund (TETFund) as part of the 2020 Zonal Intervention.

16. The Central Bank of Nigeria met with the Board of the U&C Microfinance Bank to discuss some Financial/Banking policies.

17. The new Commander, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Aluu Division, CSP Ogunkanmu Gbemileke and his team paid a courtesy visit on the University Management. The Dean, Student Affairs accompanied the delegation.

18. We undertook a working visit/ final inspection on the site for the ongoing construction of the Engineering Innovation Centre for NLNG/NCDMB Institutional Strengthening Initiative graciously donated by the NLNG/NCDMB and we are thankful for such intervention 

19. We received a team from the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Rivers State branch, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and members of the Pharmaceutical Science, Uniport. The team was led by Pharm Anele Promise Enyi on a courtesy visit and had fruitful deliberation 

20. We received some Cameroonian students from the Department of Music, Faculty of Humanities, who are on Exchange and Linkage Programme in the University.

21. We inspected the following projects;
- The Science and Engineering laboratories at the ACE-CEFOR
- Baby Friendly Centre 
- Launching of the digitization of transcripts in Exams and Records unit powered by Dr. Stanley I. Lawson
- Solar Street Light at the new Mandela Hostel/Swimming Pool road, Unipark.

22. In preparation for the Commissioning and hand over of the new building graciously donated by Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for use by  the Centre for Logistics and Transportation (CELTRAS), we received representatives from the Ministry of Transportation who have arrived the University for the commissioning. We are grateful to the Ministry of Transportation and NIMASA for this benevolence.
