*THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT*
_The following events took place in the University from Monday, 19th - Friday 23rd June, 2023_.
1. We participated in the 2023 Annual Lecture and Life Achievement Award of the Nigerian Academy of Engineers which held at University of Lagos. The guest lecturer, His Excellency Prof. Charles C. Soludo showed class and mastery in delivering on the theme "Financing Engineering Infrastructure in Nigeria". The well attended event had dignitaries, scholars and attendees from all over the globe.
2. We received the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria, Alhj. Ja'Afaru Wase and other members in his delegation who paid a courtesy visit on the University Management. The Council hosted a national workshop for librarians and information managers in the University with the theme, "New technological trends: applications in library". We commend the University Librarian for attracting such workshop to the University.
3. At the 49th Induction Ceremony of the newly qualified Medical Doctors and Dental Surgeons, having being found worthy in character and learning, The Registrar of the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council administered the oath of allegiance to the newly inductees. The new Medical and Dental Doctors were charged to be good ambassadors to the University and the profession.
4. In keeping to faith with his Corporate Social Responsibility policy, the CEO of Jedik Global Energy, Chief John Ezeani Dike sponsored the renovation of three blocks of staff offices at the Faculty of Education and we commended him for his benevolence.
5. We participated at the 2023 policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The Policy Meeting of JAMB was for decision on national cut-off and timeline/guidelines for admission to be agreed upon.
6. Similarly, we attended the 35th meeting of the Governing Board of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) with respect to our A level programme.
7. As we continue to strive to increase our academic visibility and research output, we hosted the 3rd Annual Conference of the Society for Climate Action in Nigeria. This year's theme which is "Sustainable Management of Climate Change Effects: the Role of Research, Policy and Industry" was delivered by Prof. Nicholas Ozor.
8. We inspected and handed over the new Lecture Auditorium and Professorial Office to the University Time-table Committee to schedule for use by departments and faculties.
9. We had an exit meeting with a team from TETFund to assess their status of their projects. The team was led by Oruwari Dokubo and we are happy to report that the University was found compliant
10. The Vice-Chancellor constituted a 5-man Committee on AGO Distribution & Monitoring in the University. The Committee is headed by Engr Smart E. Orji of the Works and Services Department.
