THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT.

*Monday, 18th – Friday, 22nd April, 2022*

1. We were at the National Universities Commission (NUC), ABUJA, FCT to collect the results of the October/November, 2021 Accreditation Exercise carried out in the University of Port Harcourt. We are pleased to inform the University Community that we performed excellently well.

2. To further complement our efforts to attract quantifiable projects to the University, we held a meeting with the Group Executive Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Engr. Adokiye Tombomieye, at the NNPC Towers, Abuja. We are glad to report that the meeting was fruitful and we are hopeful that we will secure projects for construction of hostels and a lecture auditorium.

3. We inspected the following projects:

a. Perimeter fencing at the Senate Building

b. Ongoing construction of the Social Science Annex building

c. Damages at various blocks and buildings within the three campuses which were caused by the heavy rain fall on Monday 18th April, 2022.

4. We have been selected amongst eight universities by the Head of Chancery, Nigerian Embassy, Canada for a meeting with a delegation from University of Ottawa for possible collaborations.

5. We participated in the Rotary Officers Training Seminar (ROTS) which held at the Basic Studies Auditorium, University Park.

6. For the purposes of ease of identification, we carried out labeling of offices of Principal Officers of the University.

7. We received donation of some books from Dr. Dax M. Uzu, Chairman of Goodwill Association of Nigeria (GAN).

8. We were ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Owete Kingsley, at the funeral service of late Mr. Anke Nutsukpo at the Chapel of Annunciation, University of Port Harcourt.

9. We inspected the students' union secretariat recently refurbished by Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs.

We are glad to report that the secretariat is wearing a new look.

While we await favourable outcome of the industrial actions currently embarked upon by the various unions of federal universities, we encourage us to be hopeful.

Thank you.
