PRE-DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION/SCHOOL FEES

THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday, 31st July – Friday, 4th August, 2023 )

The following events took place in the University from Monday, 31st July - Friday, 4th August, 2023_

1. We were at our A Level school the Ashgroove Academy to monitor the conduct of students and examiners during the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination at the Ashgrove Academy Center and we are glad to report that we had a hitch-free examination. 

2. We received a Resource Verification Team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) as prerequisite for approval to run online programmes in the University. We are ready to formally lunch and operate Open and Distant E-Learning

 3. In order to ensue timely release of Semester and Degree results in the University, we held a crucial meeting with Deans and Heads of Departments to collectively agree on timelines for the submission of results to address delays in graduation and academic status of our students.

4. Universities thrive on collaboration, hence, we met with delegates from the Paul University, Illinois and the North Eastern University, Illinois, all in Chicago, U.S.A and discussed possible areas of partnership in environmental degradation, climate change and its impact on communities within the Niger Delta Region. 

5. in our bid to leverage on Alumni contributions to the growth of universities, we had, during  the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, received donations and commissioned a Treatment Centre donated by the Unique 80s Alumni.
This week, we received some members of the 80s Alumni to decommission the Center and transfer the amenities to the University Health Centre (Lulu Briggs)  to improve primary healthcare to the University Community.

6. As the  Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) held a two-day special conference and workshop in the University and also inducted new members, we received in audience the National Officers of the Institute on a courtesy call on the University Management

7. At the emergency meeting of the Committee of Provost and Deans (CPD) the Committee approved the extension of  resumption of academic activities for the second semester  by three (3) weeks.
By this extension, students are expected to resume on Sunday, 27th August, 2023 while lectures will begin on Monday, 28th August, 2023.

9. We received the Provost and Deans of the College Health Sciences to discuss a wide range of issues bordering on the forth-coming  professional examinations and admissions into the newly NUC approved departments in the College amongst others. 

10. We also received in audience the Dean, Faculty Pharmaceutical Sciences and other members of the Faculty to discuss issues affecting the Faculty and particularly processes to ensuring the smooth running of the newly approved Pharm D. programme that will commence in the 2023/2024 academic session.

11. As we seek to increase the admission quota of the Law Faculty and in preparation to the final accreditation by the Council on Legal Education, we received the Acting Dean, Faculty of Law, Dr.  Edward Bristol and other members of the Faculty to discuss and secure plans towards a successful accreditation.

12. In recognition of our invaluable services and contributions to the growth of the University, we were honoured by the Graduate Students of the University.

13. We received members of the Lions Club International, District 404A2 Nigeria. As part of her community engagement, the Club secured the approval of the University to carry out a project geared towards improving the aesthetics of Delta Park. 

14. As part of the yearly programme of the Registry Arm, the Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Gloria O. Chindah, in the company of the Committee for the 12th Registry Day Celebration, paid a courtesy visit on the University Management and we assured them of our continuous support.

15. In appreciation of Management's effort to ensuring the commencement of programmes in the Faculty of Computing, we received the Acting Dean and other members of the Faculty on a courtesy call on  the University Management. We are ready  to run the newly approved Departments of Cyber Security and Information Technology. 
Following the approval of NUC, the University shall commence admission into these departments in the upcoming admission exercise. 

16. As a follow up, we were at the Lulu Briggs Health Centre to ensure that the items/equipment donated by the 1980 Alumni set have been put in use and we were satisfied with the level of compliance 

17. We visited an examination venue in the Faculty of Management Sciences. We wish to reiterate that the University condemns in strong terms the separation of gender (male and female students) during examinations and any defaulting lecturer or department or faculty will be sanctioned from henceforth
