PRE-DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION/SCHOOL FEES

THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT (Monday, 28th August - Friday, 8th September, 2023)

The following events took place in the University from Monday, 28th August - Friday, 8th September, 2023._

1. We successfully completed 2nd week of lectures and other activities of the second semester which commenced on Monday, August 28, 2023

2. Uniport , as represented by the Institute of Arts and Culture, emerged overall best in drama at the ENINA THEATRE FESTIVAL in Benin City. The university entry was a drama titled  The Struggle written and directed by Dan Kpodoh and produced by Edward Imo. Special thanks to the Vice- Chancellor for consistently supporting the Institute. The DVC Academic, Prof Kingsley Owete and the Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Prof. John Yeseibo also supported the Institute on this heroic trip. Uniport to the world always.

3. At the instance of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill represented Mr. President at the 21st Convocation Ceremony of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede. As part of the activities marking the Convocation Ceremony, we participated in the Convocation Lecture and commissioned the International Health, Safety and Environment Center of the Polytechnic.

4. In our quest to forge beneficial partnerships with reputable organizations, we received in audience the President/CEO of Belema Oil, Mr. Tien Jackrich in the University.  The visit afforded us the opportunity to discuss on areas of mutual partnership.

5. At the graduation ceremony of the Catch Them Young Digital Boot Camp organized by the Centre for Information and Telecommunication Engineering [CITE] and sponsored by NITDA, the over 201 participants in the junior and senior categories were trained on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, UI/UX Designing and Programming. Prize awards of laptops were presented to best performing trainees. The event was attended by the Director General NITDA ably represented by Dr. Sam Gambo, NITDA Director South-South, the Rivers State Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Kenneth Chisom Gbali and the  Principal Officers of the University.

6. The Central Bank of Nigeria vide a letter to the University Management, informed us of their acceptance to handover  the completed CBN Intervention Centre of Excellence to the University on Thursday, 21st September, 2023. This is a welcomed development after thorough follow-up by our Management Team.

7. In recognizing the importance of recreational activities like sports, the University hosted a novelty football match between the faculties of Management Sciences and Social Sciences at the University of Port Harcourt Stadium. The friendly fun-filled football match provided both staff and students the opportunity to unwind and laugh. The University Management, Hon. Commissioner for Education, Rivers State, Prof. Prince Mmom, Deans, Directors, HoDs, Professors, members and friends of the University Community were cheering spectators. The Theatre Art band was on ground to serenade the stadium with danceable drum beats. 

8. We  participated in the two days high praise "Shabach" concert which held  in the University. Shabach, a Greek word for high praise was organized by the student community for a 24hrs non -top high praise unto the Lord. 

9. As we strive to provide improved services to staff and students in the University, we inspected the face-lift of the Lulu Briggs. We are happy with the improve appearance of the Health Centree.

10. The Nigerian Environmental Society hosted her 2nd National Student Conference at the Ebitimi Banigo Auditorium with the theme "Environmental Competency: Empowering the Next Generation of Environmental Professionals".
We were conferred an award in recognition of our contributions to the growth of the body in particular and the Environmental friendly practices in the University in general.

 11. Similarly, we received a certificate of noble prize of excellence as Vanguard of Exemplary Leadership in Nigeria for our contributions to Nigeria's quest for sustainable development. The award was conferred on us by the Advocates for Good Governance in Nigeria (AFGGN).

12. In recognition for being iconic and digital, we received an award of Excellence from the University of Port Harcourt Centre for Information and Telecommunication Engineering

13. The meeting of Tenders Board was held to consider and approve submissions presented before the Board. 

14. The meeting of the Committee of Provost and Deans (CPD) was held to consider results of the just concluded Post UTME  and to approve entry cut off of the Post UTME
