• About COHSE
The Centre for Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (COHSE) is one of the Centres in the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS), University of Port Harcourt. The Centre runs four Professional programmes, namely:
(i) M.Sc. in Occupational Health & Safety; M.Sc. in Environmental Technology & Management
(ii) Ph.D in Occupational Health & Safety; Ph.D in Environmental Technology & Management
Our Post-graduate programmes are industry-driven are run in collaboration with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria (NISCN) as well as International Certifying body like National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP, USA). In addition, students at COHSE are positioned to obtain recognized professional certifications such as NEBOSH International General Certificate and Environmental Awareness at Work, IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management, IEMA Approved Lead Environmental Auditor and IEMA Approved EMS Implementation. The programmes cover all aspects of occupational health, safety and environment and aims to give students the knowledge and practical skills required to meet the demands of the industry such as oil producing and servicing companies, manufacturing firms, healthcare organisations, environmental regulatory agencies, industrial hygiene consulting firms, NGOs and other agencies involved with safety and environmental management. Students can take full advantage of our internship programme to interact with industries which retain some of them at the end of the training.
