UniPort Admits 8,846 Students at 44th Matriculation

Over 8, 000 students offered provisional admission for the 2023/2024 academic session were on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, formally admitted into the undergraduate programme in the University at 44th Matriculation Ceremony held at the University convocation arena.

Speaking at ceremony, Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, congratulated to the matriculating students, stating that scaling through the highly-competitive admission process is a pointer that the journey ahead is for only the best. “You are here because you did no throw in the towel, despite the challenges you faced throughout the highly competitive admission process. You should be proud of yourself for coming thus far and also be prepared for the journey ahead,” he said.

Advising the newly-admitted students to be worthy ambassadors with focus on their studies, the Vice Chancellor charged them students to take advantage of the astute lecturers and the world class facilities available to them. “Here in the University of Port Harcourt, you will be meeting with different professionals to guide you through your course of study. Our desire is that you will live through the wisdom the UniPort offers. There are many opportunities here and that is why we have continuously improved on our infrastructures through lecture halls, faculty buildings, ICT, world-class E-Library.

The Vice Chancellor noted that the achievements in the University were the products of hard work from previous administrations and alumni, said that the university continues to face some challenges such as the internal transportation systems. “I want to assure you that this administration is doing all it can to address these challenges to make learning easy. This journey will no be a bed of roses, hence the need to be determined and resilient in tackling the challenges you will face. Stay on your purpose for which you have been admitted and above all, make sure you study to get yourself approved,” he said.

He charged the newly enrolled students to be worthy ambassadors of their families by shunning cultism, anti social behavior and crime. You must be honest to your career goals. “Shun drug abuse, malpractice, plagiarism and even sorting for grades. I encourage you to be good students of this great citadel of learning. Your parents have invested in you, you must therefore take your studies seriously and be the best at all time. I welcome you to a world of academic dynamics,” he told the new students.
