Ongoing Research

1. DEVELOPMENT, VALIDATION AND STANDARDIZATION OF A SCALE FOR MEASUREMENT OF SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ATTITUDE TO AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE

A critical challenge for sustainable agricultural and rural development in Nigeria have remained how to mobilize her large population of youths (above 45%) as active participants in the agricultural transformation process especially now that most farmers are ageing. Most youths appear to exhibit negative attitude towards agriculture, even as the society views agriculture as a poor-man’s job and a career for school drop-outs. These unfavorable attitudinal disposition remains one  of the challenges yet to be overcome in the way of mobilizing youths for uptake of career and vocation in agriculture.  The aim of the research is to produce a standardized instrument that may be utilized with ease for measurement of Senior School Students’ Attitude to Agricultural Science. Measurement data would provide a basis for ameliorating observed youths' unfavorable attitudinal disposition to Agriculture, enhance Career Guidance and  improve selection decisions.
