ODeL To Commence Programmes Soon

If  everything works as planned, the University of Port Harcourt Centre for Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL), would commence academic activities  soon. Commending the Acting Director of the Centre, Dr Barilee Baridam, a delegation from the Regional Training and Research Institute for Distance and Open Learning (RETRIDOL), Abuja, expressed satisfaction with his efforts in ensuring the successful take off of prgrammes in the nearest future. Speaking during a facility visit to the Centre located at the heart of Port Harcourt, a member of the delegation and an ODeL specialist, Clifford Amini informed the Acting Director, Dr Baridam that the team was on ground to assess areas of partnership to ensure a successful commencement of programmes. “The reason why we are here is to check what you have on ground and areas in which you are lacking and see where we can partner and render assistance that would enable you secure approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC). We would recommend that this whole facility be solely used by ODeL. A functional Counseling Centre should be put in place with a professional Guidance Counselor while a memorandum of understanding should be signed with an Information and Communication Technology Centre (ICTC) equipped with a minimum number of 500 computers as recommended by NUC for computer-based test examination amongst others,” Amini said. In his response, Dr Baridam commended the team for visiting the Centre. He assured them that the recommendations would be giving prompt attention to e n s u r e s u c c e s s f u l commencement of programmes. The Acting Director further disclosed that the Centre would commence programmes in Economics when approved as its curriculum has been fully developed. Other members of the RETRIDOL team included the Director, Professor Eya Patrick, and the Technical Officer, Mr Oluwaseun Philips.
