Senate Elects Reps Into Council Boards, C’ttees

More members of Senate have been elected and others appointed into various Council Boards and thCommittees at the 456 Meeting of Senate held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Those elected to represent Senate in the two slots for the Appointments and

Promotions Committee (Academic) were Professors Lucky Odokuma and Sunday Osaat. Professor Odokuma came top with 40 votes, while Professor Osaat scored 15. The third contestant, Professor Best Ordinioha got 11 votes Professor Betty-Ruth Iruloh was appointed into the Board of UniPort Investment, Professors Gregory Avwiri and Barisua Nwinee were appointed into the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee and Appeals Committee, respectively. Professors Prince Mmom, Kingsley Owete and Andrew Obafemi were appointed into the Honorary Degree Committee, Professors Chineze Uche and Aaron Ojule got the slots for the Board of UniPort Press and Ibisime Etela was appointed to serve in the Development Committee. thO thers appointed at the 456 Meeting included: Professors Caroline Mbonu and Andrew Efemini for Student Welfare Committee, Onyewuchi Akaranta for Council Budget Monitoring Committee and Walter Ihejirika for Delta Series Editorial Board. Professors Johnson Okpako and Francis Minimah were appointed toSchool of Graduate Studies Board, Udensi Udensi and Lucky Odokuma are to serve in the Senate Committee on Examination Malpractice, Adedapo Aiyeloja and Onyee Nwankpa are for Publications Committee, Olufemi Omitola is to serve in the Senate Committee on Academic Policies and Programmes, while Bridget Nwanze was appointed to serve on the Board of University Museum. Following the recommendation from the Senate Committee on Academic Policies and Programmes (SCAPP), Senate approved the commencement of a Bachelor's degree programme in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS). Senate also approved the amended version of the General Regulations and Statement of Academic Policies. Following the advice by the Legal Unit in the Vice Chancellor's Office, Senate approved the graduation of Ezekiel Etejere of the Department of Mechanical Engineering who was earlier deemed to have overstayed his period of residency. 
The august body approved results from the Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Education, Engineering, Management Sciences, Agriculture, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Law, School of Science Laboratory Technology (SSLT) and College of Health Sciences. Earlier, Acting Vice Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Stephen Okodudu introduced Mrs Joyce Tamuno as Acting Registrar and Secretary of Council and Professor Abdulrazaq Kilani as Coordinator of Academic Affairs.
