VC Lauds Faculty Officers on Dedication to Duties

Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, has commended Faculty Officers in the University for their productivity and dedication to duties. The Vice Chancellor made the commendation in his address at the End-of-Year Get-Together of the Faculty Officers' Forum (FOE), which held at the NIM Lounge on Friday, December 3,2021.

Describing the event as apt and unique, the Vice Chancellor, said he brought almost the entire management team of the University to the programme because of the importance he attached to issues that concern Faculty Officers. He also gave an exhortation with a Biblical text from Luke Chapter 19, reminding the very Senior Administrative Staff of Zaccheus, the diminutive tax collector, who made effort to see Jesus Christ by climbing the Sycamore 'Free.

"You have done very well from the beginning of the year till now, but there are rooms for improvement. We appreciate you, but put in more efforts in your duties as Directors, Deputy Registrars and Faculty Officers, who play very critical roles in the running of the University," ProfessorGeorgewill said.

On her part, Acting Registrar, Mrs Joyce Tamunuo, described the Forum as a very good initiative that help the Faculty Officers to rob minds and the get-together as a very auspicious and well-timed occasion to unwind after a year's hard work. "I want thank to thank you all for your support and give God the glory. Let us continue to improve in our attitude towards students and the way we interact with them. We should treat them as our own children as they left their various home to come here for studies," she said, expressing joy that the Director of Administration of the University Counselling Centre is a member of the Forum.

Earlier in her address, Chairman of FOF, Dr Agatha Ataga, noted that the Forum, was founded by the 7" Registrar of the University, Dr Dorcas Otto as a forum of Faculty Officers and College Secretaries who are the foot soldiers of the Registrar. They represent the Registrar at Faculties, Colleges, Schools and other administrative units. Ataga also revealed that members of the forum often work on weekends and public holidays to accomplish some official tasks.

The event, which featured Goodwill Messages from Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Clifford Ofurum, President University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA), Dr Udeme Georgewill had in attendance Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Kingsley Owete, his counterpart in charge of Research and Development, Professor Iyeopu Siminialayi and Registrar Designate, Dr Gloria Chindah. Others include the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Ogbonna Okorie, and Dean, Faculty Engineering, represented by Associate Dean, Dr Ngozi Udeh.

Highpoint of the event was the Cutting of Cake and presentation of gifts to a retiring Deputy Registrar, Dr Georgeana Umeogu. In her response, Dr Umeogu expressed appreciations to the Forum, praying that her younger colleagues would also retire in good health when their time comes. Chairman, Welfare Committee of the Forum, Mrs Mammy Ottonna, thanked God for a successful year, expressing hope 2022 would be better.
