Law Faculty Gets New Boardroom

By Humphrey Ogu

The Faculty of Law now has a state-of-the-art Boardroom. This positive development follows the kind-hearted donation of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Elder Wilcox Abereton. The Elder Wilcox Abereton Boardroom was commissioned on Thursday, November 10, 2022.

In his speech, Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, who expressed appreciation to the donor for his magnanimity, also commended the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Ibibia Worika, for his commitment to the development of the faculty. “A good Dean or Director is the one that attracts funds. Dean of Law, you are a great Dean. Other Deans and Directors should emulate the Dean of the faculty of Law,” he said.

Welcoming guests to the official commissioning of the Boardroom, Professor Worika, recounted the challenges of housing the Faculty at Emerald Energy Institute and how he approached Abereton for support. “Elder Wilcox Abereton instantly bought the vision. What he has done goes beyond my expectation when he said he would do something about our request. Everything you see here tells us about the quality and taste of our benefactor,” he said. On his part, Elder Abereton, who expressed dismay at how the Federal Government treated university staff following the recent industrial action, also lauded the Dean for his leadership and judicious use of resources. “I congratulate the Faculty of Law and the University. So long as this Faculty remains, the building will remain. Let me thank the Dean for finding me worthy to contribute to the development of legal education in the University.

On my part, I will do more than I have done already. Whenever you notice any defect in this boardroom, let me know and we will fix it,” he said.

Also speaking, the Associate Dean of the Faculty, Dr Edward Bristol-Alagbaria expressed gratitude to God. “We give God all the glory for the success of this occasion that was midwifed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. We thank our donor, Elder Wilcox Abereton. We also thank the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill for all his support, especially for finding time to join us here today.”
