THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT

1. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill returned from the United Kingdom (Cambridge) where he represented the University of Port Harcourt at the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigeria International Conference on Strategic Governance of Universities for Global Excellence. We sincerely appreciate all staff, students and stakeholders of this great University for the roles they played during the period the Vice-Chancellor was away.

 

2. We were at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Office Abuja, FCT to receive special intervention fund for establishment of Urology/cancer or cardiology, Diagnostic Research Training Facility at Teaching Hospital.

 

3. We met with the Deans and Heads of Departments to assess our level of preparedness for the NUC Accreditation. We are glad to report that we have made huge progress and we are hopeful of a hitch-free accreditation.

 

  4. We participated in the World Entrepreneurship Day organized by the Entrepreneurial Centre. The global event was graced by participants from within and outside the University Community.

 

5. We participated in the Annual General Meeting Unique Uniport Choba Cooperative and we had fruitful deliberations 

 

6. The 465th Senate Meeting held on Wednesday, 24th November, 2021. Appropriate decisions were made on matters brought before the Senate.

 

7.  We signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Federal Polytechnic Oko on some Academic Programmes.

 

8. We received the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Ignaius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Okechukwu Onuchukwu. We congratulated him again and had fruitful discussion on areas of possible collaboration between both Universities.

 

9. We participated in the Public Lecture of the Faculty of Management Science on Trajectory for Improving and Sustaining Employee Engagement. The Conference was well attended and informative.

 

10. We participated in the 16th National Scientific Conference of the College of Nigerian Pathologist. We celebrated with them and called on their national body to continue in the practice of quality laboratory medicine and standardization of methods in pathology.

 

11. We were conferred with honorary award by the International Association of Research Scholars & Administrators. The award was given in recognition of our  contributions to research and innovations.

 

12. We attended the Annual Conference on Envisioning the Future of Librarians: Building Librarians for the New Age organized by the Nigerian Library Association, Rivers State Chapter. The conference was quite enlightening as the need for the emergence of Jet-age Librarians was emphasized.

 

13. We received the Iwhuruohna Uniport Assembly and we had fruitful discussion.
