*THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT*.

_Monday 25th – Friday 29th July, 2022_

 We are pleased to report to the University Community the following events that took place in the week under review.

1. The University Management held a meeting with a team from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja. The team was on ground to check compliance of Staff Recruitment Exercise for the period 2019-2021 and also carry out other routine checks as stipulated in the Financial Regulations of Nigeria.

2. We held a robust meeting with a team from the Ministry of Education and that of the Budget Office, the Teams, in company of the University Principal Officers inspected some ongoing Capital Projects in the University.

3. The 95th Board Meeting of the U&C Microfinance Bank held on Monday, 25th July, 2022. The Board agreed on far reaching decisions to position the bank for more efficient  service delivery.

4. We carried out inspections on the following completed and ongoing sites:

- Newly completed Ultra-Modern Complex of the U&C Microfinance Bank.

- Ongoing construction of Faculty of Social Sciences, Annex Building, Unipark.

- Completed Asphalt and Drainage of Ashgrove Academy Road.

- Completed silos/storage and Farm-House at the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture.

5. The Principal Officers of the University, held a business meeting with the Mr. Femi Kolajaiye, a representative of Opolo Global Limited. The meeting which had  the Deputy Director, Physical Planning Department, Director and Deputy Director of Entrepreneurial Centre  in attendance was focused  on mutually benefitting partnership to improve the visibility of our Entrepreneurial Centre.

6. We paid a courtesy visit on the Akpor Monarch and his Council of Chiefs at Obiri Akpor, Ozuoba. Issues of mutual relationship between the Akpor kingdom and the university were discussed and we are hopeful of continued relationship with Host Communities.  

7. We signed a Memorandum of  Understanding with Cyphercresent Limited (a software developing company)  to establish a collaborative framework. The partnership is to operationalize the "Triple Helix Model" which will in turn provide platform for training young and industry-ready professionals.

8. We held a comprehensive meeting with the Team representing CONOIL Plc. The meeting focused on renewing operations of the company on campus with the possible review of the operational Terms of Agreement.

9. We joined former Vice Chancellors: Prof. Nimi D. Briggs, Prof. Joseph A. Ajienka, Management, Staff and students of the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS), University of Port Harcourt to bid farewell to Dr. Fusier the IFP School, France Representative at the IPS Complex, Uniport. We commended him for his nineteen (19) years tireless services in the University. We wished him the best in all his endeavors.  

10. Following our presentation of TETFund abandoned projects in the University, we are happy to inform the University Community that TETFund has approved completion of those  projects. The Entrepreneurial Building at Choba Park Campus abandoned for over a decade is now in progress.

11. We received Dr. Mrs. Sarah Nwinee,  a representative of Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Warri, and discussed possible collaboration between both Institutions.

While we await a favourable outcome of the industrial action embarked upon by the various unions of federal universities, we encourage us all to stay strong.
