*THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT*
_Monday 1st – Friday 5th August, 2022_
1. We received two Visiting Scholars from the United Kingdom. They are: Prof. Ibi Erekosima - Consultant Renal Physician, Salford Royal Hospital, Manchester, and Prof Tudor I. Chinnah - Medical School, College of Medicine & Health University, Exeter, and had fruitful discussions in the fields of Medicine & Medical Education and Anatomy & Medical Education in the interest of our University.
2. We met with a team of experts led by Mr. ZE’EV KIRSHON and had an extensive discussion on Alternative Power Generation/Supply to all campuses of the University.
3. We participated in the Regional Roundtable organized by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) for the Academia, Industry and Other Stakeholders with the theme, "The Path from Innovative Research to Commercialization of Viable Prototypes". The Roundtable meeting was quite insightful and result-oriented, it also afforded us the opportunity to commend the Board of NCC for endowing a Professorial Chair on ICT in the University of Port Harcourt.
4. We attended the UPWA International Group of Schools 2022 Year Book Lunch and End of Session Party. The University Management commended the President, Staff and Students of the school for a successful end of academic year and assured them of more commitment in the years to come.
5. We paid a courtesy visit on the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency, Lagos, for inspection of the facility before signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Agency. The DG/CEO of the Agency, Dr. Samuel Etatuvie, showed us through the world class facilities and thereafter, we signed the MoU. The partnership will enrich research of our Staff and students on Ethnopharmacology which is drug from plant sources.
6. We attended a meeting with the Hon Minister of State Education Hon. Opia at Abuja to present some of the pressing needs of the University before him. We are happy to inform us that our request is receiving the much needed attention.
7. We attended Hauwei national awards event at Abuja.*'Team Uniport'* was officially announce as national and regional winners. We commended the team and urge all staff and students to do their best in their various engagements within and outside the University.
8. We attended Ministerial Tenders Board Meeting at Abuja for consideration and award of TETFund Zonal 2021 intervention. The meeting went well and our recommendations were approved.
9. We regret to announce that the University lost a student who slumped on the field during a football game. This is very painful and we sympathize with members of his family. May God grant his soul eternal rest.
We encourage us all to stay safe and engage in meaningful activities for our personal growth and that of the University also.
