THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday 15th – Friday 20th January, 2023 )

*THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT*

 

_The following events took place in the University from Monday 15th - Friday 20th January, 2023_

1. We received Mr. Ben Llewellyn-Jones, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Lagos and his Team. They paid a scheduled visit to the facilities of the Offshore Technology Institute and were impressed with the Institute. They also met with students who are undertaking MSc in Renewable Energy to help combat climate change, meeting ACE-Spin off Company @ Tonipash Energy that our students have set up. We commended the Commission for her support through the United Nations Aid [UNAid] and expressed hope for increased funding and partnership.

2. The Director, Port Harcourt Study Centre, Dr Nnenna Nancy Chukwuma led a team of the National Open University to appreciate the Vice Chancellor and University Management with regards to the technical assistance and partnership between both institutions.

3. In Preparations for the second semester examinations for 2021/2022 academic session, we undertook a tour round examination venues to ensure readiness in compliance with acceptable standards for examination.

4. At the doctoral defense conducted by the Department of Pharmacology, we were impressed by the academic originality and contributions to knowledge exhibited by the post graduate students. We also commended the members of staff involved for their great work ethics and academic excellence.

5. In our avowed quest to ensure a peaceful and cordial student learning environment, we held series of meetings with the Ag. Dean of Student Affairs, University Chief Security Officer and some other staff of the Security Unit and concerned Student Union stakeholders to assess post-election matters arising from the just concluded Student Union elections.

6. The University Management held a meeting with Deans of Faculties of Humanities and Communication & Media Studies along with Heads of Departments in the Faculties in a bid to finding lasting solutions to some lingering issues.

7. In keeping with faith to our promise for a cordial Management/Union relationship, we held a meeting with the Board and Management of the College of Continuing Education and Executive members of ASUU and SSANU with a view to proffering solutions to some grey areas in the effective management of the College.

8. The Vice Chancellor met with the Board of the University Investment Limited to assess the viability of the University investments company(UIL).

9. We received the new priest of the Chapel of Annunciation, University of Port Harcourt, Rev. Fr. Donatus Odinakachi Okeowhor and his team who were on a familiarization visit to the University Management.

10. The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) paid a courtesy call on the University and we assured them of necessary cooperation where possible.

11. In our quest for a more prosperous University, we met with a Benefactor for partnership in provision of scholarship for our students and support for other developmental needs of the University. We are optimistic of a fruitful partnership.
