THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT (30th of January - 3rd of February, 2023)

_The following events took place in the University from Monday, 30th January - Friday 3rd February, 2023._

1. We received the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike, who was on inspection visit to evaluate the failed roof of a segment and work progress of the New Convocation Arena under construction. 

2. We signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and received Letter of Award for the construction and furnishing of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Students Centre in the University. 
The ground breaking ceremony is expected to hold this month. We appreciate this laudable gesture from an illustrious Nigerian.

3. We attended the crystal jubilee celebration of U & C Microfinance Bank Limited, which culminated with a Thanksgiving Service @ Our Saviour's Chapel, UniPark.

4. We held an emergency Convocation meeting to elect a Convocation Representative into the University Governing Council. Pastor Ule Williams Glad, the current National President, University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association was elected to serve as  the Convocation Rep.

5. We received the Executive members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State branch led by her Chairman, Dr. Ebi Robinson and had fruitful discussions.

6. Similarly, the Local Organizing Committee of the Organization for Women in Science in Developing World (OWSDW), led by Dr. Eucharia Nwachi paid a courtesy visit to the University Management.  The Team informed Management of her forthcoming conference, and we assured them of collaboration towards promoting women in science. 

7. In our bid to amicably resolve some disaffection arising from the just concluded Students Union elections in the University, the Student Union Election Petition Panel met with critical stakeholders, aspirants and some students where the decision to uphold the outcome of the election was reached. 

8. The Vice-Chancellor received the investigation report and interacted with the team from the Centre of Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (COHSE) on the failed roof on one of the segments of the new Convocation Arena under construction.

9. We undertook an on-the-spot assessment of centres for the ongoing GES examination, and noted areas for improvement in subsequent University wide examinations.

10. The Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars, an arm of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS) paid a courtesy call on the University Management.

11. The meeting of the University Tenders Board held on the 1st of February, 2023 and took decisions in line with the Procurement Act.

12. We inspected the following projects: 
- The ongoing renovation work at the ICAN building beside the Faculty of Management Sciences.
- Assessment of  water challenge/repairs/replacement at the Presidential Hostel, Unipark
