PRE-DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION/SCHOOL FEES

THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday 10th – Friday 14th July, 2023 )

The following events took place in the University from Monday, 10th - Friday, 14th July, 2023._

1. In a bid to increase our global visibility, we participated at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and Grants regime for selected Vice-Chancellors across Europe, Africa and Costa Rica. The forum was aimed at using education as a catalyst for developing Africa's next generation of leaders and work out possible ways to address the barriers and factors impeding Africa's development.

2. The Registrar and Secretary General of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Farouk Umar Abubakar inducted newly qualified nurses from the department of Nursing, College of Health Science of our University. The induction ceremony which is the fifth in the series, had 42 inductees. The Vice-Chancellor charged newly qualified nurses to be worthy ambassadors of the University.

3. In recognition of our contributions to giving superlative institutional leadership and governance, the Body of Heads Nursing Services Department and Principals of Schools in Federal Health Institutions (BOHNAPFHI) conferred on the Vice Chancellor an award of outstanding leadership.

4. We appointed Professor Ezaal Okowa, Professor of Economics, as University of Port Harcourt Desk Officer for Strategy Implementation Task Office for Presidential Executive Order No. 5 (SITOPEO-5). By the appointment, Prof. Ezaal Okowa shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day to day awareness and implementation of the Presidential Order.

5. The University of Port Harcourt, through the Vice-Chancellor, received a worthy commendation as Digital Vice-Chancellor at the European Union Erasmus Workshop in Germany. The University of Port Harcourt was selected as one of the Universities in Nigeria as a Centre for the establishment of a Masters Programme in Embedded Artificial Intelligence. The delegation to the conference included Prof Bourdillon Omijeh - Director Centre for Information Technology Engineering (CITE) and his assistant Dr. Matthew Ehikhamenie 

6. We received a delegation from the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) and Belarusian National Technical University. The, team of experts/ strategic partners were in the University to explore opportunities for the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics in improving teaching and learning in the University.

7. We played host to the State chapter of the Nigeria Environmental Society who were on a courtesy visit to the University Management in preparation for her Students’ National Conference to be hosted at the University of Port Harcourt.  We assured them of the needed cooperation as host University. 

8. We commissioned the newly remodeled building of the Works and Services building of the University of Port Harcourt. The project was undertaken to improve the working conditions of staff in the Department

9. We unveiled the newly renovated Faculty of Education building. The project which was undertaken by a friend and partner of the University has added value to making the facility more conducive for teaching and learning.

10. We took a tour to  PS Hall and other classes currently in use as examination venues to observe the examination processes. Examinations commenced as scheduled and were all over by 5pm on each examination day. We commend the staff for their dedication to duty and the students got their good conduct during the examinations so far.

11. Following the appointment and resumption of duty as Hon Commissioner for Petroleum and other minerals by Professor Ogbonna Joel the immediate past centre leader of ACE-CEFOR the following appointments have been made effective immediately 
a. Professor Ikechukwu Abagwa- Centre Leader ACE-CEFOR 
b. Dr. Victor Aimikhe - Deputy Centre Leader
c. 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫 Danniel Okon - Safeguard Officer
We wish them the best as they continue to serve the University in their new additional capacities 
12. The University football club UFC is a club for all staff and offers opportunities for all staff for recreation and sports. The UFC played a friendly match with students of the University as part of their activities.
