PRE-DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION/SCHOOL FEES

THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday 14th – Friday 18th August, 2023 )

The following events took place in the University from Monday, 14th - Friday, 18th August, 2023.

1. The first set of LLB Degree students from the Faculty of Law successfully completed their programs. This historic feat, this defining moment in the faculty of Law and the University was celebrated by the students, staff and the entire University community. We are grateful to God.

2. The University of Port Harcourt is yet again achieving giant strides as we received notification as one of European Union's beneficiary universities to offer Master Degree in Artificial Intelligence. The EU funding which is targeted at enhancing the skill set for modelling, design and analysis, has five Nigerian Universities and three others from Europe as beneficiaries.

3. The Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology,  Peadiatrics and Child health of the College of Health Sciences of the University commenced the Part III MBBS Professional examinations under a most friendly but compliant examination environment. 

4. The University beyond being a degree awarding institution offers practical leadership experience through character formulation, hence, we celebrated the pilot idea of the Student Union President, Comrade Dickson David Senibo for hosting a skills acquisition programme for the student union. The skills acquisition provided trainings in media, photo journalism, writing and publishing, editing, graphic design amongst others. 

5. We granted permission for  the NITDA STEM bootcamp for kids. The bootcamp offers IT learning opportunities in Artificial Intelligence, Coding, Digital Communication, Robotics and Drones, Embedded Systems, IoT and 3D printing. With the partnership of NITDA. Participants are entitled to free training kits, certificate and prizes in different categories. 

6. The Coalition for Education in Nigeria led by Engr. Yakubu Narudeen and other Executive members of the Coalition felicitated with us on our modest contributions to the growth of the University in the past two years with an award.

7. The University Demonstration Secondary School (UDSS) is one of the foremost secondary schools founded within the University host communities to offer quality education. The School established in 1982 prides of outstanding alumnus and we participated in her 2023 graduation ceremony. We were thrilled by the blazing academic and administrative achievements of the School.

8. The Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) provides practical industry experience to our students. We paid an inspection visit to the Unit to ascertain the quality of renovation work recently carried out and we are pleased with the facelift.

9. We joined staff and students of the Faculty of Education to witness the send forth of Professor Nzeneri. The retiring professor recently bowed out meritoriously from the services of the University, Attendees in turns eulogized the worthy contributions of the retiree and wished him a good life filled with health and grace.

10. The University Senior Staff Club provides staff and visitors of the University a conducive environment for relaxation after a hard day work. The Snooker Board section of the senior staff club paid a courtesy visit on us to commend the giant strides in the University since our assumption of office and also informed us of the Vice-Chancellor's Snooker Board Competition coming up soonest.

11. As we continue to encourage students to forge healthy associations in order to achieve common interest, we received the newly formed Niger Delta Post-Graduate Students Association who were on a courtesy call on the University Management. We urged them to work with the Graduate students association to achieve set goals for the graduate students in the University as a whole.

12. We received the Head of Department and members of staff of the Fisheries Department who paid a courtesy visit on the University Management. As an entrepreneurial university we urged the Department to establish a University Fish Farm emulating the establishment of the Uniport bakery an initiative of the Hospitality and Tourism Department.
