PRE-DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION/SCHOOL FEES

TWO WEEKS IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday, 25th September – Friday, 6th October, 2023 )

_The following events took place in the University from Monday, 25th September- Friday, 6th October, 2023._

1.   We received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to undertake Open Distance and E-Learning. By this approval, the University shall commence a B.Sc. Accounting Programme via the ICT Enabled Supported Blended Learning model of Open and Distance Learning (ODeL).

2. The Centre of Excellence in Public Health and Technological Research (ACE-PUTOR) in collaboration with the University organized a one day hybrid training for academic staff on "Constructive Curriculum Alignment of University Programmes" in readiness for the International Accreditation of all academic programmes in the University.

3. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill, was received by the Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Kenya, Prof. S.G. Kiama and had fruitful discussions on fostering collaboration and exchange of programmes

4. We received the class of U95 Geography and Environmental Management students who paid a courtesy visit on the University Management. 

5. As a way of promoting cooperation between the University and security agencies, the University will host the first Public Lecture on "The Role of Masses in Protecting Public Assets". The public lecture which is to promote national development and security is scheduled to hold on the 9th of November, 2023 at the Ebitimi Banigo Auditorium in honour of the Commandant General of NSCDC, Audi Abubakar. We encourage members of staff to attend on the said date.

6. We undertook an on-the-spot pre commissioning inspection visit to the state-of-the-art built and furnished Convocation Arena donated by the Rivers State Government due for commissioning by the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir, Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara.

7. We performed the groundbreaking and foundation laying for the construction of a two floor 40 rooms hostel accommodation. The special intervention project is  aimed at addressing the dearth of on-campus accommodation and to improve students welfare and security in the University.

8. The University Senate at its 476th statutory meeting considered and approved results and recommendations from the College/faculties/school. The meeting was held at the CBN Centre of Excellence exquisite auditorium.

9. We hosted a delegation led by Professor Julian Osuji who was accompanied by the DVC R&D, Professor Iyeopu Siminialayi. They officially informed the University Management that the 2023 hosting right for the Biodiversity Bio-Genome Conference has been given to the University of Port Harcourt. We pledged our support and commitment to the Society in ensuring a well-organized conference.

10. We played host to a delegation from Abuja on a critical national assignment to the University. In our hospitable manner, we welcomed the team and assured them of the maximum cooperation in achieving the aim of the visit. 

11. The Chartered Institute of Hospitality, Tourism & Management of America (CIHTMA), the National Institute of Hospitality, Tourism, Travel Management & Research Development of Nigeria in collaboration with the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Port Harcourt is currently hosting a 3-days conference in the University. We participated in the opening ceremony and we are hopeful of valuable policy statements from the workshop sessions. 
 
12. The Niger Delta Youths Federation (NDYF) Worldwide presented the Distinguished Personality Award on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill in recognition of his outstanding contributions to human capital development in the Niger Delta.

13. We received the National Chairperson and members of the Women Association of Quantity Surveyors of Nigeria. We discussed the prospects of establishing the Faculty of Environmental Sciences to house the Departments of Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Estate Management, Building Technology and Rural & Urban Planning.

14. The students' body Enugu State under the auspices of the Association of Enugu State Students paid a courtesy visit on the University Management. We urged them to be intentional about their academics so as to contribute to national development.
