PRE-DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION/SCHOOL FEES

THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday 9th – Friday 13th October, 2023 )

The following events took place in the University from Monday 9th, - Friday 13th, October, 2023.

1. We participated in the 36th Conference and Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU). The Conference which was centered on Leadership and Gender also afforded key stakeholders and participants to assess the challenges and successes of Tertiary Education in Nigeria.

2. Developmental partners are key for the growth and sustainability of universities. We therefore signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NOTAP/PZ-Cussons for the upgrade of research laboratory in the University. The agreement will lead to the supply of 100 million naira worth of equipments to the University by PZ Cussons. We are grateful to God for such collaboration.

3. We participated in the celebration of the World Fisheries Day, the Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture and in collaboration with the Catfish and Allied Fish Farmers Association of Nigeria organized a one day conference on "Prospects of Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries Enterprises in the Nigeria Blue Economy". The well attended event had the 7th and 8th Vice-Chancellors, Prof. J.A. Ajienka and Prof. N. E. Lale respectively in attendance.

4. We commissioned the newly renovated Senior Staff Club of the University of Port Harcourt under the Dr. Engr Budu Eme led Exco. The Club is built to provide optimum relaxation after work and to promote work efficiency. 

5. We also commissioned the newly constructed and furnished building of the Africa Centre of Excellence in Public Health and Toxicological Research (ACE-PUTOR) sponsored through the Agence Francaise De Development (AFD) and the Federal Government of Nigeria ACE Impact Fund. The magnificent building housing offices, smart classrooms, auditorium, laboratories, library, video conferencing rooms, scholars corner will in no small measure impact teaching, learning and research in the University.

6. We attended the 2023 Joint Christian Campus Fellowship (JCCF) programme "Come and See”

We worshipped with the students and prayers where offered for the University and the nation at large.

7. The Petroleum Technology Development Fund Gas Chair Research of the University held her Endowment Committee Meeting to appraise progress report of the Chair. The Endowment Committee was highly impressed with the Chair Occupant, Prof. Dulu Appah with regards to achievements within the period under review in terms of human capacity development, patent, scholarly publications and equipment fabrications. 

8. In preparation for the forthcoming Nollywood National Conference scheduled to hold in the University, we received the Interim Dean, Faculty of Communication and Multimedia Studies, the Head of Department and members of the the Department of Film and Multimedia Studies to discuss on modalities and support for the Conference.

9. Also, we received the Ag. Head of Department, Mathematics and Statistics, Prof. E. Nduka and other members of the Department on a courtesy visit to the University Management to discuss a wide range of issues affecting the Department.

10. We recieved some top members of staff from Fidelity Bank on a courtesy visit to the University Management to discuss possible areas of collaboration.

11. We received the Zonal Pastor of Christ Embassy Church, Port Harcourt Zone and some of her members. They presented to us copies of the monthly spiritual Rhapsody of Realities. The Church representatives offered prayers for the University, Management, staff and students amongst others. 

12. We received Mr. Prince Nnamdi, an alumnus of the University who led a delegation from MTN Nigeria to the University to introduce the company’s broadband internet gadgets for use by staff and students. 

13. The University in collaboration with Centres, Institutes, and Stakeholders regularly conducts staff and students trainings and development programmes. The University in partnership with ACE-CEFOR organized a training on Management of Information Systems for members of staff. The training was intended to equip staff with relevant skills and knowledge on Information Management.

14. In celebration of the World Disaster Reduction Day, the Center for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies, University of Port Harcourt in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), held a one day symposium on "Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future; Breaking the Cycle". We participated in the event which was well attended and enriching 

15. The Department of Political and Administrative Studies, Faculty of Social Science organized a send-forth ceremony and book launch in honour of Prof. Eme Ndu. The book titled "Discipline, Civilization and Politics" a core of his scholarship has quality article contributions from colleagues and students. 

16. The Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies presented an Award of Leadership to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill in recognition of his contribution, capacity and innovative prowess.

17. Similarly, the Post-HND Unit, Faculty of Engineering presented an Award of Quality Leadership on the Vice-Chancellor for his visionary guidance and exceptional qualities.
