PRE-DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REGISTRATION/SCHOOL FEES

THIS WEEK IN RETROSPECT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ( Monday 23rd – Friday 27th October, 2023 )

_The following events took place in the University from Monday 23rd, - Friday 27th, October, 2023._

1. The University of Port Harcourt hosted her maiden Innovation Week titled "Deepening the Foundations of Innovation and Entrepreneurship". The week-long event had scholarly presentations from resource persons from all walks of life. The Innovation Week had on display exhibition from the College/Faculties/School in the University. The event enabled a worthy handshake between innovators and innovation financiers. The University of Port Harcourt Innovation Week Award was presented to Professor Sotonye Ogan. 

2. Universities in Nigeria undergo regular accreditation by the National Universities Commission, thus, we received the 2023 NUC accreditation teams for the departments of Environmental Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and the School of Science Laboratory Technology. The Team assessed course content, staff strength and capacity, infrastructure and other enabling conditions for the smooth running of the stated programs. We are glad to report that we met all criteria and had a successful Exit Meeting.

3. The University Principal Officers met to consider and approve recommendations/request on University related matters.

4. The University Management received Professor Olusola Oyewole, the Secretary General of Association of African Universities who was the keynote speaker at the maiden University of Port Harcourt Innovation Week. 

5. Similarly, we received Prof Malcom Lewis a Nephrologist of the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. The visit was to facilitate an exchange and linkage training programme between the scholar and the University. We commended Prof Malcom for the internationalization of knowledge through the training of our staff and students. 

6. As part of our primary responsibility to teach and examine students, we participated at the Part II MBBS Oral Examination of the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences.

7. The Committee of Provost and Deans met to approve the revised academic calendar of the University. 

8. We participated at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Nollywood Nation Conference held at the University of Port Harcourt. The conference had in attendance celebrities from the Nollywood industry and academics in the industry. The conference Title "Movie Stardom and Nation Building" was apt as it established a link between the role of the movie industry and nation building. 

9. It is with joy that we inform the University Community that we were selected as one of the six universities in Nigeria for the establishment of an Innovation Hub by the TETFund. This was communicated via a letter signed by the Director of Research and Development/Centre of Excellence on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NUC. The University of Port Harcourt is indeed working. 

10. We received some staff and students of the University of Port Harcourt Confucius Centre on a courtesy visit to the University Management. The Confucius Centre is set to celebrate the Chinese Anniversary. We are hopeful that the Centre will be upgraded to an Institute within the shortest possible time.

11. We inaugurated the University of Port Harcourt Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club. The Club was inaugurated by Lucy Ekpeyong, the Rep. of the Director of Small & Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria. The new inductees were charged to be innovative and set the pace as pioneer members of the Club.
