UMaT Hails UniPort Partnership

Leader of the seventh batch of internship students from the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa Bay, Ghana, Mr. Tawiah Samuel, has commended the Management of the University of Port Harcourt for sustaining the partnership over the years.
Mr. Samuel made the commendation at a Welcome Cocktail organised by the Management of the University in honour of the visiting staff and students of UMaT. “Many students at the undergraduate level are not privileged to travel out of their countries to experience this type of hands-on training that our students receive every year. The University of Port Harcourt is central to the Petroleum Engineering programme of UMaT and you are part of our history. We are seeking more collaborations aimed at strengthening our programmes and UniPort has been of great importance to us. We are ready to learn the academic culture of this university to enable us enhance our knowledge delivery method,” Samuel said.
Addressing the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, said that the partnership between the two universities has worked so perfectly and needed to be sustained. He pledged the readiness of the University Management to continue the relationship for as long as the UMaT authorities may wish to keep it running.
“UMaT is a young and vibrant university that has limitless potentials for greatness. Judging by the young faculty in charge of the programme, I have no doubt that staff and students enjoy close interaction in a manner that positively impacts the learning process. We are pleased to note that some Nigerian students are studying at UMaT. If they thought they were running away from Nigeria, then we are happy to welcome them back home where the action is,” the Vice-Chancellor said. He advised the staff and students to interact with their Nigerian counterparts to get a feel of the University and the city of Port Harcourt. 
In their contributions, the Director of the Institute of Petroleum Studies, Professor Dulu Appah and Acting Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Dr. Boniface Oriji, assured the students of their readiness to give them the very best in practical application of classroom theory. “We have lined up so many activities, including field trips to keep you busy in the next two weeks and we hope you would open your minds to learn” Dr. Oriji charged the students. 
Earlier, Director of the Exchange and Linkage Programmes Unit, Professor Acho Akakuru, told the delegation that his office liaises with over 50 institutions around the world, adding that the Unit also organises debates and oversees AIESEC activities in the University, amongst other capacity building programmes.
The delegation comprised 54 students and four lecturers, namely; Amarfio Mensah, Ocran Daniel and Amankwah Poku, including the team leader, Tawiah Samuel. Others who joined the Vice-Chancellor were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi, Registrar, Mrs. Dorcas Otto and her husband, Dr. Godly Otto, Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control, Professor Ikechukwu Agbagwa and Dr. Chikwendu Ubani.
