World Bank Consultants Commend IPS, ACE Programmes


In a bid to strengthen the quality of programmes in the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS), as well as the Department of Gas Engineering, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, hosted ABET Consultants commissioned by the World Bank to engage in Gap Analysis of programmes under its Africa Centre for Excellence in Oilfield Chemicals Research (CEFOR) in the University.
Giving an overview of their assessment of the programmes at the Vice-Chancellor's Committee Room on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, Leader of the 3-man team, Professor Joe Turner, said that it reviewed the programmes in line with approved standards for accreditation in the United States and a sense of professional judgement. He stated that they were impressed with what they saw on ground.
The Emeritus Professor from Clemson University in the United States, further disclosed that the team considered the requirements set by the National Universities Commission on programme accreditation, noting that the delegation was very impressed with the University's close partnership with the industry. “Overall, we are very impressed with the programmes we scrutinised at the Centre, especially the strong ties with the industry,” he stated. Professor Turner also said that the team engaged Faculty members in detailed discussions on how to address a few grey areas that would further strengthen the programmes.
In his response, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndowa Lale, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Regina Ogali, expressed gratitude to the team for the visit, assuring it that the grey areas would be strengthened to deliver world-class programmes.
Earlier in his remarks, Centre Leader, Professor Ogbonna Joel, expressed gratitude to the World Bank for constituting the team to accredit the programmes, stating that the exercise had added value to the Institute.
The team which also comprised Emeritus Professor Earl Hoskins of Texas A and M University and Dr. Franc Noel, an IBM Distinguished Engineer, had earlier paid a courtesy visit on the Vice-Chancellor, who pledged the commitment of the University to sustain the partnership.
-Chancellor were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi, Registrar, Mrs. Dorcas Otto and her husband, Dr. Godly Otto, Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control, Professor Ikechukwu Agbagwa and Dr. Chikwendu Ubani.
