Dr. Gentle W. Komi holds Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees in Animal and Environmental Biology (with bias in Hydrobiology and Fisheries) from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He joined the service of the University of Port Harcourt in 2012 as an Assistant Lecturer and is growing through the ranks. His research centers on water quality, feed and population dynamics of aquatic organisms. He worked on the population dynamics of an exotic shrimp (Penaeus monodon) in the Andoni River system, Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Komi’s research work has shown that: the alien shrimp species are established and dominates the shrimp fishery; quarry and spillway ponds favourably support fish culture, and that Mucuna pruriens utilis (Mucuna bean) could replace soya bean in fish meal. Komi’s current research is on the contribution of social networks to the living standards of shrimp fishers in Rivers State, Southern Nigeria. Komi is a member of Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) and Nigerian Environmental Society (NES).   He is a Ph.D Research Fellow in Agricultural and Rural Innovations at Makerere University, Kampala. Komi is a scholar of Rivers State Government and Carnegie Corporation of New York.
